Custom parameters

Is it possible to use a custom parameter on its own for dynamic text replacement in an ad? In the examples I've seen, it's always used in combination with the {Keyword} parameter.

For example, if I have the keyword, "toilet training for toddlers" and I add "toilet training" as param1 for that keyword, can I use it in my ad title like this:

"{Param1:Potty Training} for Toddlers"?

So if the keyword, "toilet training for toddlers" is searched the ad title will be, "Toilet Training for Toddlers" but if any other keyword is searched the ad title will be, "Potty Training for Toddlers".

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

See "dynamic text parameters" on this page to see what I mean.

Here is one of the examples given on that page:

Our {keyword} coffee is {param1} off!

I was wondering if it's possible to just use the "{param1}" placeholder as follows:

    Our coffee is {param1} off!

    Hi jrcollins01,

Thank you for your clarification. You are able to insert {param1} without having to insert {keyword} in the ad text. Don’t forget to click on the Keywords tab, click Columns and the Modify columns to ensure that Param1, Param2 and/or Param3 are selected to display.

It is not necessary but I would strongly advise you to have a default text set in your {param1:default text}. This is to ensure you have a backup text, in case the customer search term exceeds the character limit.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions as we are always happy to assist.

    Sincerely,

    Hi jrcollins01,

    Thank you for your question!

Custom Parameters are URL parameters that are used to track information about the source of an ad click. By adding these parameters to your ads and campaigns, you can learn if people who click on your ads came from mobile devices, where they were located when they clicked your ads, and much more.

What you are currently describing sounds more like a dynamic text ad, where you use the {Keyword} placeholder to make your ad title, ad text, and display URL display keywords that match, or closely match, the text that a customer types. Write your ad, and then insert the {Keyword} placeholder where you want the keyword to appear. Default text is mandatory in {keyword} dynamic text parameters. See example below:

                    “{Keyword:Potty Training} for Toddlers”

If the customer searches for “Toilet Training” and you have the keyword ‘Toilet Training’. The Ad will appear as Toilet Training for Toddlers; however, if the customer searches ‘Toilet Training for my Toddler’ the Ad will appear as ‘Potty Training for Toddlers’. “Toilet Training for my Toddler for Toddler” has exceeded the maximum character limit and ‘Potty Training’ is the default keyword. If a customer searches a term that is not a current keyword your ad will not be shown.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please let me know if you have any additional questions as we are always happy to assist.

    Sincerely,
