What is the shortcut for strikethrough when using Excel in the new version of Teams?

In the old version of Teams with an Excel file open, you could highlight a cell, press CTRL + 5, and it would insert a strikethrough. Now when you do that in the new version of Teams, it takes you back to the main OnceDrive tab on the left that shows all your recent files opened. What is the new strikethrough shortcut?

Hi MPhillips, My name is Umar and I'd be happy to help you out with your question.

Please note: This is a user-to-user community forum. We are users just like you who help others. We are not employees of Microsoft.

In the new version of Teams, you can still apply strikethrough formatting in Excel using the following keyboard shortcuts:

Windows: To apply strikethrough to a cell, press Ctrl + 5. To remove strikethrough, use the same shortcut again.

Mac: For Mac users, the keyboard shortcut for strikethrough is Cmd + Shift + X. Again, this works as a toggle, so using it once applies strikethrough, and using it again removes it.

Remember that these shortcuts allow you to quickly format text within Excel cells, even when working in Teams. Happy spreadsheet editing!

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm sorry, it does not for me. As I stated in my original question, "Now when you do that in the new version of Teams, it takes you back to the main OnceDrive tab on the left that shows all your recent files opened."

I'm really sorry for the inconvenience. Itseems there might be a genuine issue or change in behavior with the new version of Teams that's causing the unexpected conflict with the traditional strikethrough shortcut.

Let's delve into troubleshooting this further:

Plain Excel Test: Create a new, blank Excel file directly within Teams. Try the Ctrl + 5 shortcut in this isolated file. Does it work as expected, or does it still navigate you to the OneDrive tab?

External Excel: Open a regular Excel file on your computer (not within Teams) and test the shortcut. This will help determine if the problem is specific to Excel within Teams or a wider keyboard shortcut issue.

    Regards Umar

So, if I open a new Excel file inside of the new Teams, pressing CTRL+5 still takes me back to the OneDrive tab. However, if I open a regular Excel file on my desktop as you suggested, CTRL+5 works properly and the strikethrough appears. Also, if I close Teams, reopen it, and choose to go back to the old Teams, CTRL+5 works. The problem seems to be isolated to the new version of Teams.

I understand the frustration with the keyboard shortcut issue in the new Teams experience. It seems like CTRL+5 functionality is inconsistent when working with Excel files within the new Teams interface.

    1. While not ideal, you can use alternative methods to achieve strikethrough formatting within Excel files opened in Teams:

Ribbon Menu: Navigate to the "Home" tab in the Excel ribbon and click the "Strikethrough" button (letter "S" with a line through it) located in the Font section.

Right-Click Menu: Right-click on the text you want to strikethrough and select "Strikethrough" from the context menu.

    1. The most effective way to report this bug is directly to Microsoft. Use the Feedback Hub app (built-in to Windows 10 and 11) to submit a detailed report. Describe the issue, mentioning the specific steps to reproduce it (opening Excel within Teams, using CTRL+5) and the expected behavior (strikethrough appearing).

    Regards Umar
