Searching for contacts only gives me group chats! I can’t find the people I’m looking for.

When I search for specific people, they vanish from the search results! Instead, I only see the group chats they’re members of. This happens to some people, but not everyone.

This is true for the New Teams. Teams classic works fine every time.

    Dear Ivan Braun1

Good day! Thank you for publishing in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you!

First of all, we apologize for the trouble and inconvenience caused to your work! Based on your description, I did a test and I don't get the same error as you, I tried to search one contact called Katherine, and when I searched in new teams for windows desktop client, it showed all the result(I mean contact and group chat) Please kindly check following screenshots

    .

So I want to confirm if you click "Enter" after searching some names, can you see contacts in your list? If still not then please kindly refer to following

    • Please first kindly use your account to login teams web app **** and then check whether you got the same error, thanks.
    • In addition, please kindly check whether you have updated your teams desktop client to the latest version, if not please check the result after updating, thanks. For your reference Update Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support
    • Please also kindly try to cleat teams cache and then check the result, thanks. For your reference Clear Teams cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn
    • Please also kindly use the "@" symbol: If you know the person's name or username, you can try typing "@" followed by their name in a chat or channel. This should bring up a list of suggestions that includes the person you're looking for.

If your problem persists, then please kindly give me the feedback after trying above suggestions so that I can do more research and tests, thanks.

Thank you in advance for your understanding! Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciated. I hope all the best!

    Sincerely

Right, after hitting Enter and going to People tab, I can see the contact.

    Image

That's the only way to find this contact. I can't find her from the search suggestions:

The problem is: when starting a group chat, I can't hit Enter and go to the People tab:

    I'm using the latest version:

I don't know the @ names. I only can find emails in the profile.

To clear cache, this line doesn't work:

    rm: /Users/ivanboyko/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2/.com.apple.containermanagerd.metadata.plist: Operation not permitted

As usual, the old version works fine, both desktop and web.
