Cannot Access OneNote – Web and Mobile Errors Despite Ample OneDrive Storage

Hi, I'm experiencing a serious issue with OneNote across all platforms:

  • When I try to open OneNote in the web browser, I get this error:
“Sorry, we can't get your notebooks right now. Please try again later.Reference number: 7e21ea34-74b2-477c-b374-8da1c83942fc”
  • On my Android phone, OneNote shows:
“WORKING OFFLINE (OUT OF CLOUD STORAGE) OneNote can't sync your notes because your account is out of space. Page last synced at 1:50 PM (E0000796 bukxn 30101 | b016cdb0-1fd1-454f-9b6c-b07abc9678ec 202506021750)”

However, my OneDrive account has plenty of available storage, I’m on the 2 TB plan and have only used a few hundred GB. So, storage shouldn't be the issue.

At the moment, I can’t access my notebooks at all, on any device or platform. Can someone please help me resolve this?

Thanks.

    Good day!

Welcome to Microsoft Community. Thank you for sharing your concern with us today and we hope that all is well. That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially since you have plenty of OneDrive storage. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    Troubleshooting Steps

    1. Check OneDrive Service Status – Sometimes, Microsoft services experience temporary outages. You can check the Microsoft Service Status to see if OneNote or OneDrive is affected.
    2. Sign Out and Sign Back In – Try signing out of OneNote and OneDrive on all devices, then sign back in to refresh your account sync.
    3. Manually Sync OneNote – On your desktop or mobile device, go to OneNote Settings > Sync and try manually syncing your notebooks.
    4. Clear OneNote Cache – If you're using OneNote on Windows, clearing the cache might help:
      • Close OneNote.
      • Navigate to C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneNote\16.0\cache (or a similar path depending on your version).
      • Delete the cache files and restart OneNote.
    5. Check OneDrive Permissions – Go to OneDrive and ensure your notebooks are still stored there. If they are, try opening them directly from OneDrive.
    6. Try a Different Network – If possible, switch to a different Wi-Fi or mobile network to rule out connectivity issues.
    7. Reinstall OneNote – If nothing else works, uninstall and reinstall OneNote on all affected devices.
