I have the latest version of Teams. I'm having trouble uploading word documents and get messages occasionally, "The file can't be uploaded.". Is there a way to fix this?

    Hi @Mike Kruzel,

Good day to you! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand you're experiencing difficulties uploading Word documents in Microsoft Teams, and occasionally receive the error message: "The file can't be uploaded." I'm here to help.

Based on your description and the latest updates to Microsoft Teams, here are several steps and considerations that may help fix the problem:

1/ Check File Size and Format

    • Microsoft Teams has a 2GB file size limit for uploads in chats and meetings
    • Ensure the Word document is not corrupted and is in a supported format (.docx or .doc).

    2/ Clear Microsoft Teams Cache

Corrupted cache files can interfere with uploads. To clear the cache:

    1. Close Teams completely.
    2. Navigate to: C:\Users<YourUserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams
    3. Delete the following folders: cache, blob_storage, databases, GPUcache, local storage, and tmp.
    4. Restart your computer and reopen Teams

3/ Try the Web Version of Teams

    • If you're using the desktop app, try uploading the file via Teams Web. Sometimes, the issue is specific to the app version

4/ Check SharePoint and OneDrive Status

    • Teams relies on SharePoint and OneDrive for file storage. If these services are down, uploads may fail.
    • Visit Microsoft Service Health to check their status

5/ Review Permissions and Channel Settings

    • If you're unable to upload to a specific channel, it may be due to restricted permissions or exceeded storage limits.
    • Please contact your Teams administrator to verify your permissions

    6/Use a ZIP Archive as a Workaround

    • If the issue persists with a specific file, try compressing it into a .zip file and uploading it
