Windows 6Ghz Hotspot is long overdue, where is it?

Hi, I am on the latest version of Windows, I use the Windows Hotspot feature to create a direct local area connection between devices like my Oculus Quest, and actually get great performance (since I can't say the same for my router). However I recently had a family member start to do the same thing. Given that 2.4Ghz is just not feasible in terms of performance for either of us, we both use 5Ghz. The problem? Wi-Fi frequency interference exists, and it's BAD when we both attempt to use it on each of our Windows PC's at the same time.

One of the headset's is a Quest 3, which supports 6Ghz, so having a 6Ghz option would quite literally be the perfect solution to our problem. 6Ghz has been out for well over 5 years now,and what's worse is it was already implemented in a Windows update KB5050094 and people were able to successfully get it working in my exact scenario, but the update was "rolled back." Why?

Please implement this feature, it'd be a good way for many consumers to use 6Ghz in some capacity since a lot of Routers included by ISPs are dated and mediocre compared to the hardware and devices people own.

Hi Quantamly, this is Kimberly. I'm glad to assist you today.

Here's the current state of affairs (as of mid-2025):

Official 6 GHz hotspot is not yet publicly available, pending full rollout.

Expected support in preview KB5050094 update, but pulled back.

KB5051987 update mentions support but rollout/behavior remains unclear.

Insider builds/API showed signs of enabling 6 GHz enum support but not in stable builds.

Once the support for it rolls out soon, a Wi-Fi 6E adapter with 6 GHz hotspot-capable support is a must have.

Final thoughts, the technology is there, but the official rollout is being handled cautiously, likely due to regional and hardware complexities.

Should you have more questions, please let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly
