Zone redundancy is enabled by default for all Azure Container Registries in regions that support availability zones, making your resources more resilient automatically and at no additional cost. This enhancement applies to all SKUs including Basic and Standard and has been rolled out to both new and existing registries in supported regions.

Availability zones are activated on premium registries and in regions that support availability zones.

Note- The Azure portal and CLI may not yet reflect the zone redundancy update accurately. The zoneRedundancy property in your registry’s configuration might still show as false even though zone redundancy is active for all registries in supported regions. We’re actively updating the portal and API surfaces to reflect this default behavior more transparently. All previously enabled features will continue to function as expected.

Hi @Nikhil Duserla ,

Does this mean all existing ACRs are already zone-redundant, or is the migration/update still in progress? Since the backend team is working on it, will the Azure CLI continue to show “false” until the next update ?

Also, do we have any official Microsoft documentation confirming that zone redundancy has been rolled out for all ACRs ?

Thank you for reaching us back.

Zone redundancy has been rolled out only for basic and standard tier for ACR. You can enable zone redundancy for premium tier Azure Container Registries in regions that support availability zones.

I have a question regarding an existing Azure Container Registry that was deployed with the Premium SKU two years ago. Will Microsoft be enabling zone redundancy for customers for existing ACR premium sku, or will it be necessary to recreate the registry to take advantage of this feature ?

I have checked with our team and here is the right information-

This enhancement applies to both new and existing registries in supported regions, so you do not need to recreate your registry if it’s in a zone-enabled region. also, with the latest update, zone redundancy is now applied across all SKUs (Basic, Standard, and Premium) in regions that support availability zones. A few updates will soon be made to the documentation and portal, enabling zone redundancy (ZR) happens by default for all SKUs.
