Hello,

I would like to ask if it is possible to extend the retirement deadline for the Basic Load Balancer by one week. Currently, the service is scheduled to be retired on September 30th, but we would need a short extension until October 7th to complete our migration.

Could you please advise if such an extension is possible, and if so, what steps we should take?

Thank you in advance for your support.

    hi Michał ,

it is highly, highly unlikely that microsoft will grant a one week extension for a single customer. the retirement of the basic load balancer is a global, platform wide action. they announce these dates years in advance to give everyone enough time, and they almost never make exceptions for individual cases. the system is probably set to be decommissioned on a fixed schedule for everyone.

i know that is not the news u were hoping for, but we need to focus on what u can do right now.

your only real path forward is an emergency migration. u have a couple of days. this is what u need to prioritize.

first, get a standard load balancer deployed now. the configuration is different, but the core concepts are similar. u need to create a new standard sku load balancer. then, u will have to move your backend virtual machines into the backend pool of this new load balancer. this often involves modifying the ip configurations on the network interfaces of those vms.

the public ip address for the basic load balancer cannot be moved directly. u will need a new public ip resource created with the standard sku as well. this means your service's ip address will change, so u have to plan for that dns update.

also, check this... if u are using any network security groups, u must reassociate them with the new standard load balancer's resources. the standard sku is much more strict about security rules.

set calendar reminders for these deadlines months in advance. it saves so much last minute panic.

i know this is not the answer u wanted, but i hope it gives u a clear and urgent path forward. u need to focus all efforts on that migration guide immediately. good luck, u can get this done.

    Best regards,

    Alex

    Hi,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A community forum!

Microsoft has announced that the Azure Basic Load Balancer will be retired on September 30, 2025, with no option to extend this deadline. This retirement date is final. If you require an extension until October 7, you must either open a support request with Microsoft Azure or escalate through your Microsoft Account/Customer Success Manager. In your request, explain your migration status and the potential business impact. Please note that such approval is exceptional and not guaranteed, so it's advisable to have contingency plans in case the extension is not granted.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

    Luca

    Hi Michał Pietrusiewicz,

Thanks for your question on the Microsoft Q&A portal!

In addition to Alex Burlachenko comment, I'd like to contribute a few more details

The Azure Basic Load Balancer is scheduled for retirement on September 30, 2025. After this date, Basic Load Balancers will no longer be supported or functional for Azure Resource Manager native resources. Currently, there is no public policy or standard process to extend this retirement deadline for individual customers.

    What happens after retirement?

    • Basic Load Balancers will stop working after September 30, 2025.
    • Customers are strongly advised to complete their migration to the Standard Load Balancer before this date to avoid service disruption.
    • This retirement does not affect Azure Cloud Services (extended support) customers.

    About extensions:

Microsoft generally does not grant extensions for service retirements due to operational and dependency reasons. To meet the deadline, it is recommended to speed up migration efforts.

    Next steps for migration:

Following these steps will help avoid any service disruptions when the Basic Load Balancer retires.

I hope this helps to clarify the issue.

    Thanks!
