Windows Recognizing but Not Using External Storage to Complete Updates

Predictably, my Surface Go 3 is perpetually running out of space and I find myself unable to complete the 24H2 update despite having an SD drive (formatted NTSF) and an NTSF-formatted memory stick, both with plenty of space available.

The update function downloads 100% of the update to the C:\ drive but can't seem to get past 37% mark on the install. I do get the pop-up that recognizes both external drives but when I click the Next button, it only brings me to another pop-up that wants me to empty my recycle bin (already empty) and downloads folder (also already empty) and delete unneeded programs (also already done).

From that point, nothing happens. No apparent prompt to complete the installation to either the SD drive or memory stick.

Can't figure this one out. Wondering if there's a glitch in the update software or if I'm just missing something. Any insights/explanations/fixes much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

If windows update isn't working even after you cleared up space for it to work with try running the update troubleshooter.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-updating-windows-188c2b0f-10a7-d72f-65b8-32d177eb136c

Open link and click "Run Troubleshooter in Get Help". This will run the troubleshooter and will find and repair issues with windows update, it will ask you a few question to try and narrow down the issue, then attempt the repair, after it's done try to run windows update again.

    Hope this helps,

    JC
