Is there a way to fix Middle Earth Shadow of war not Saving?

I recently redownloaded Middle Earth Shadow of War through the PC gamepass app, and when it crashed and i relaunched the game i noticed that there was no save after i played for roughly 4 hours. I restarted thinking the crash simply caused the save to corrupt and starting over would create a new save. Sadly after closing the game to eat dinner and then launching to continue playing I found that no save was created and I had to start over again from level 0 with no progress. I went online to try and find any solutions and it seems like its an issue that people have been having for months no one has an answer other than buy it on another marketplace. I'd prefer not to do that when the dlc isn't on sale and it would cost me more money than its worth

Thank you for posting question to Microsoft Q&A Forum. According to this issue, may I know if you have checked on this location within your Windows?

Based on my research, it seems to me that cloud/state sync is failing on the Xbox app side, so the game’s autosaves never make it into the “used” location or don’t survive relaunch. May I know when you launch Middle Earth Shadow of War, did the game open another launcher or is it running directly from Xbox app? Please let me know if the game was opened in an external launcher. I am looking forward to your reply.

I have had the exact same issue, it opens it directly from the app if that helps. I did the same thing and restarted but came on today to see my save is gone again

So I have the exact same issue, and I did some more looking into it. Almost exhaustively.

The game doesn't generate a save file at all. No cloud, no local, none whatsoever. If it were just a cloud issue... The game would still have a local save. If you leave the campaign, it would allow you to restart from said save point. But this simply is not the case. This doesn't matter if you're launching from the Xbox App or the Store. Shadow of War does not have an independent launcher, and even using Steam to manage the library doesn't change anything, as the file structure by the Xbox/Microsoft store doesn't change depending upon where it's being launched from.

Only thing I haven't tried at this point is manually adding the save file from an external source.

Furthermore, it does not seem to matter if you have an active Game Pass subscription or not. Which is normally required to access cloud saves it seems. Which I can understand, but that doesn't actually seem to have an impact whatsoever.

I was am having the same issue, I put a few hours in the game and got off for a little bit and when I got back on I had to restart couldn’t find the save and no other launcher open up when I load the game

Same issue here. It seems like this issue started to happen just few month ago(based on reddit post timing). It would be great if Microsoft/XB/WB could fix it, cuz clearly this issue on their side

Sup Ian, same issue. And did all the steps. Restarting both the Xbox and PC uninstalling and reinstalling the game on both trying to force the Cloud saves to go through. As well as trying to repair the app and game services. My series X has my saved data. So I can still play there. But the PC through Xbox app doesn’t seem to have any of it. But tells me all my playtime and achievements and everything. I open it strictly through Xbox app. And it used to work like a year ago possibly more I’ve been busy. Every time I start the game I get the introduction for playing the game for the first time as well as all the update notices. But I’m forced to restart the game from the very beginning.

Yeah honestly I don’t think they care to much I was told to go to Xbox support but the stpuid ai lead me no where I spent hours trying to figure out how to contact a real person and still got no where it’s extremely ridiculous
