Hi Stacey,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A Forum.
I understand you’re unable to reset your password and are also seeing a BitLocker recovery prompt on your computer. For security reasons, please avoid sharing any personal information (such as email addresses, ticket numbers, or recovery codes) in this public forum.
Here are the recommended steps:
1, If you lost access to your Microsoft account, please note that this is Microsoft Q&A Forum so we don't have access nor authorization to recover your account. Please go to https://account.live.com/acsr to verify your ownership of your locked account. You can use this guidance to help you in recovery form: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form. If you've already done it, the only way is contact with Microsoft Support.
2, Find BitLocker Recovery Key
- Sign in to the Microsoft account linked to your PC on another device at https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey.
- Locate the device name in the list and find the 48-digit BitLocker recovery key associated with your locked PC.
- If you saved the key elsewhere (USB drive, printed copy), check those locations.
3, Unlock Your PC Using BitLocker Key. On your locked PC during startup, when prompted, enter the 48-digit BitLocker recovery key to unlock the drive. Once unlocked, you can access Windows to proceed with password reset.
4, Reset Your Windows Password
- If using a Microsoft account for sign-in:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Password and choose to change or reset the password.
- Since the current password is forgotten, use the password reset option by following the on-screen prompts.
- If the account is local (not Microsoft account):
- You can reset the password via Windows Recovery Environment using Command Prompt or other options.
- This may require booting from Windows installation media if you do not know the current password.
If Recovery Options Fail, please contact Microsoft support with your ticket number for identity verification and help resetting the Microsoft account password.
