OneDrive “Convert File” Fails for Excel >1MB — File Type Unsupported

Hi everyone,

I followed a tutorial/video that explains using the Power Automate OneDrive “Convert file” action to convert Excel files to PDF. It works perfectly for files under 1MB, but when the Excel file size goes above 1MB, the action fails with the following error:

File type unsupported

I checked the Microsoft documentation and couldn’t find any information about file size limitations for this connector. I also cannot use third-party connectors (e.g., Adobe, Encodian), so I need a solution within the Microsoft ecosystem.

Has anyone faced this issue?

I would appreciate help with either:

Confirming if there is a file size limit for the OneDrive “Convert file” action

Any alternative method to convert Excel files larger than 1MB to PDF without using third-party connectors

    Hello Jagannath,

While there’s no official size limit stated, many users have reported similar issues, suggesting there may be an undocumented threshold or timeout affecting larger files. Since you can’t use third-party connectors like Adobe or Encodian, one workaround within the Microsoft ecosystem is to use a combination of Excel Online (Business) and OneDrive actions to extract the file content, recreate the file, and then convert it.

Some users have also had success by creating a new file from the original content before running the conversion, which seems to bypass the error in some cases.

    This might help
