I have a file that was created in Excel and is opened via Excel or M365. I use this file multiple times a day and it is set to auto-save. I have an icon on my home screen that let's me access the files easily. Unfortunately, the icon has stopped working. So I went to get the current saved version of the file to add the icon back to my home screen and found the only versions on my phone are from May 4th! That is an immense amount of data lost and I'm not sure I can accurately re-create it. I've tried clearing all file search caches, restarting, looking in my cloud, etc. It's as if it just disappeared sometime after noon today. It is VITAL I retrieve the file from Nov 10, 2025...

Hi Marka Irene, I can imagine how stressful this must feel youve been relying on that Excel file daily trusting autosave to protect your work and suddenly it looks like weeks of effort have vanished.

To resolve the missing Excel/M365 file issue verify sync settings on Android 16 to ensure background data is not restricted clear the Excel cache to refresh the file list check recent files on other devices for cached versions confirm that autosave is set to OneDrive/SharePoint instead of local storage repin the file shortcut from the cloud. review the OneDrive/SharePoint recycle bin for deleted versions.

When you saved and worked on the file throughout the day did you notice the autosave indicator showing it was syncing to OneDrive/SharePoint or was it only saving locally on the device?

    Best regards

It seems you are experiencing issues with retrieving the latest version of your Excel file on your Android device. Here are a few steps you can take to try and recover your lost data:

    1. Check OneDrive or SharePoint: If your file is saved in OneDrive or SharePoint, log in to the respective service and check if the latest version is available there.
    2. Version History: If your file is stored in OneDrive or SharePoint, you can check the version history of the document. This feature allows you to see previous versions and restore them if necessary.
    3. File Recovery Options: If you have previously enabled file recovery options or backups, check those settings to see if you can restore a more recent version of the file.
    4. Contact Support: If the file is critical and you are unable to recover it, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for assistance.

Unfortunately, if the file was only saved locally on your device and not backed up, it might be challenging to retrieve the lost data.

I figured it out. I found the most recent .bin file from Nov 8, 2025. I copied the .bin file and changed the file extension to .xlsx since that was the original program for the file. Opened the copy/changed file and it worked like a champ. File was a day older than I thought. Apparently, it was the last time I made changes. The .bin file saved my bacon!
