my students need to install 2022 for a project
it needs 2022 and haven't been updated for 2026 yet
and there is no place to get the 2022 community version installer and its not available in the installer as well
I think it is time and a good opportunity to get familiar with Visual Studio 2026.

Had this exact same problem pop up today. I was able to use winget to install it:
winget install --id=Microsoft.VisualStudio.2022.Community -e

I also needed to install and use VS 2022 today for a project that requires 2022. The line...
winget install --id=Microsoft.VisualStudio.2022.Community -e
did work, but it took me a moment to realize that this was a PowerShell script! Afterwards I had to install all of the packages that I needed.
It's a shame that Microsoft tries to bury the older versions and doesn't make it easy to access them. I dug for about two hours trying to find out how to get 2022, if it wasn't for your post I'd still be digging!

Unlike the paid editions, the free version is always the lastest and does not support downloading earlier versions.

Sometimes you don't have a choice but to use an older version... which in itself is a shame that Microsoft doesn't allow for a backwards build on the newer versions or just make it easier to get the older version. It does suck to have two different versions of VS on this machine... eating up valuable space...

I need VS2022 community to compile and run CUDA code for a GPU I have. Its not helpful of Microsoft to assume everyone can keep up with their releases. For example QT only supports 2019, and CUDA 13.1 only supports VS 2022.
Any ideas where I can get this please?
