Folks - recently after a windows update the drag and drop icon [right click - move] and in some apps at startup, the icon has become 5x its normal size. How on earth do I make the icon back to normal size? TY, dw PS - win11 will also not screen-shot the visual.

    Hi,

I’m really sorry about the issue you’re running into, The large drag-and-drop icon issue in Windows 11 is a known bug, often tied to display scaling settings. The most common fix involves adjusting your display's scale and then resetting it.

Adjust Display Scale (Most Likely Solution)

Changing the display scaling setting, even temporarily, and then logging out and back in can force Windows to re-render the icon correctly.

    1. Open Settings (press Windows key + I).
    2. Go to System > Display.
    3. Under the "Scale & layout" section, note your current scale setting (e.g., 125% or 150%).
    4. Change the scale to a different value (e.g., if it was 125%, change it to 100% or 150%).
    5. Log out of your Windows account and then log back in to apply the change fully.
    6. Once logged back in, return to the Display settings and change the scale back to your original, recommended value.
    7. Log out and log back in one more time.

    Adjust Folder View Settings

The size of the icon when you drag a file can be related to the view settings of the source folder.

    1. Open File Explorer.
    2. Navigate to the folder where the large icons are originating from.
    3. Hold down the Ctrl key and use your mouse's scroll wheel to adjust the icon size. Scrolling down will make them smaller, and scrolling up will make them larger. The drag-and-drop icon size should match the current view size.

    Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can sometimes cause display anomalies.

    1. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Display adapters section.
    3. Right-click on your graphics card (e.g., Intel HD Graphics, NVIDIA, AMD) and select Update driver.
    4. Choose Search automatically for drivers. Alternatively, visit the manufacturer's website to download and install the latest stable driver.

And Since this is a recurring bug after a Windows update, you can help Microsoft address it by submitting feedback through the Feedback Hub

    • Open the Start Menu, search for "Feedback Hub", and report the issue with as many details as possible.

    Hope that this Information helps.

    Kind regards,

TY for the reply. I have tried all your suggestions. The icon size function does not control the drag/drop icon. This issue happen in apps as well, usually where there is a popup window involved. The % of display also does not control this function. Restarting explorer also does nothing. The problem is no one knows where those pop icons originate from and how to control the size, maybe a registry command? I have another WIN11 machine that does not do this, and a WIN10 that also does not. This is a dell XPS15003DRGDfqg
