I downloaded Microsoft 365 for school and I'm not able to access important files.

I downloaded Microsoft 365 for school since I needed to be able to work with access. I downloaded the file I was provided with by my professor, and I need to edit it but when I download it and try to open it, it says that a potentially dangerous macro has been blocked. I tried the solutions given on the Microsoft support page but added the website I got the file from to the trusted list didn't work and when I tried making just that one file safe it didn't work either. Is there anything else I can do to be able to access my schoolwork?

To resolve the issue of blocked macros in the file you downloaded, you can try the following steps:

    1. Unblock the File: Right-click on the downloaded file, select Properties, and look for an Unblock checkbox in the General tab. If it is present, check it and click OK.
    2. Check Trust Center Settings: Open the Office application (like Access), go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > File Block Settings. Ensure that the file type you are trying to open is not blocked. You can clear the checkboxes for the file types you want to allow.
    3. Use Trusted Locations: If the file is still blocked, consider moving it to a Trusted Location. You can set up a Trusted Location in the Trust Center settings.
    4. Group Policy Settings: If you are in a school environment, check with your IT administrator to see if there are Group Policy settings that might be blocking macros. They can adjust these settings if necessary.
    5. Digital Signature: If the macros are signed with a digital signature, ensure that your device has the corresponding Trusted Publisher certificate installed. This can allow the macros to run if the signature is valid.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consult with your professor or IT support at your school for further assistance.

    Hi @Brynna Kellogg

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for reaching out and the effort taken to troubleshoot the issue.

According to your concern, this typically indicates that the file is located in untrusted location, and file security properties. To resolve the issue, I would recommend following these steps:

    1. Move the database file to a trusted location:
    • Go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings.

Identify a trusted location where you can move the database.

    • Check "Allow Trusted Locations on my network".

    1. Check the file property of your Access file
    • Find the Access file in Windows Explorer. Right-click the file and select Properties.
    • At the bottom of the "General" tab, you should see a "Security" option.
    • Check the "Unblock" checkbox, then click Apply then OK.
