Print Preview using Chrome browser - MS Excel on the Web - Content Blocked

I am logged into my MS account at excel.cloud.microsoft using the Chrome browser. I open a spreadsheet that I authored and select the File -> Print menu option. The Print Preview screen opens, but an error is shown stating that the "Content is Blocked. Contact Site Owner to fix the issue". I have checked the Chrome settings and have the "Allow popups and redirects" option set. Opening the spreadsheet using MS Edge allows me to view the preview.

How do I update the Chrome browser to allow the preview to work?

Thanks for the details. Are you using the latest version of Chrome?

Microsoft supports Excel for the Web in Chrome when it is fully updated. The "Content is Blocked" message usually happens because of how Chrome handles popups and cross-site content. Make sure Chrome is updated (Chrome menu > Help > About Google Chrome), check that no security or antivirus settings are blocking content, and confirm you are signed into your Microsoft account in the same browser profile. If it still does not work, I recommend using Edge, which is fully supported for Excel on the Web.

Thanks for confirming. Do you see any alerts in Windows Security showing recent blocks from Microsoft Defender?

To check this, open Windows Security, select Virus and threat protection, then review Protection history for blocked browser actions. Also check App and browser control, then Reputation based protection settings, and make sure nothing is blocking Chrome. If Defender shows blocked items for excel.cloud.microsoft, allow them. If nothing is listed, I recommend testing again in Edge because Excel for the Web works without these blocks there.

I helped a user who had this same issue. From what I've gathered, Chrome generates a PDF for the documents that you're attempting to print, and that generated PDF is what's displayed for the print preview. This is what I did to resolve the same issue for the user that I was helping:

    1. Open Chrome in your regular profile.
    2. Navigate to chrome://settings/content/pdfDocuments
    3. Select the radio option labeled Open PDFs in Chrome.
      User's image

    Hopefully that helps!
