Lucky 5,090 Reputation points Independent Advisor2025-11-20T19:20:41.55+00:00 Hi MARLYS ORLUCK, I can imagine how frustrating this must be you’re trying to create a simple postcard mail merge, and instead you’re getting cryptic errors about fields not being allowed in certain areas.
To fix mail merge errors when creating four postcards per page on a Mac. avoid using text boxes and instead build a 2x2 table in the document body for merge fields use the Labels mail merge option with an Avery 8386 or similar template place Next Record at the start of each postcard cell, convert text boxes to frames if you must keep the original template, and if using Apple Pages, merge single postcards then combine PDFs or use Avery Design & Print for multi record layouts.
Are your merge fields currently inside text boxes or in the main document body and have you tried switching to a table layout instead of using the default postcard template?
