unable to login with correct password, even with recovery

Hi,
This is an extremely frustrating problem.

It started with an a warning on boot of my windows pc: fTPM NV corrupted or fTPM NV structure changed...

I was then logged out of my windows/microsoft account. Also suddenly my password stopped working. I was not able to login with pin, fingerprint, or facial recognition. So i changed the password microsoft password by confirmation code from email. Then that exact password failed.

So i saw that microsoft suggests "recovering" the account. So i did that, and got a link to changing the password again. I did that. Then i tried to login and i still get that the password is wrong! I am 100% sure i used the exact same password as when recovering the account.

I do not have authenticator configured on my phone. Also every time i try to get a login code with email i am sent to the page changing the password, which i did 5 times and still wasn't able to log in. I have tried logging in with another device, in other networks, from other online websites. This is another microsoft account i am using to write here.

Since not even account recovery works (i can change the password but cannot login with that password) i need help.

Best regards,

Linus

    Hi,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing all those details. I can imagine how frustrating it must be to go through this and still not be able to log in. Let’s try to narrow down what’s happening. When you enter the new password, does it immediately say it’s incorrect, or does it look like it’s accepting it and then fails during sign-in? Also, can you confirm if you’re able to sign in to your Microsoft account on a web browser from another device?

This will help us figure out whether the problem is with the account itself or something on your PC, like TPM corruption affecting local authentication. If you can log in online, then the issue is likely with the device rather than the account.

Here’s what you can try: first, check if the password works by signing in at https://account.microsoft.com from another device.

If that works, your account is fine, and the problem is local. Next, try booting your PC into Safe Mode with Networking and sign in there. If it works in Safe Mode, then the TPM issue is probably blocking normal login.

Hope this helps! Let me know what happens.

    Kind regards,

    Edward
