The calendar view changed with a recent update. I am no longer able to select the date and have that day display on the right side of the calendar. The "My Day" view is not the same and it is glitchy. Will the old view be brought back? Very frustrating for everyone in our office.

Hi, I understand how this change can feel unexpected.

The update replaced the old calendar sidebar with the new My Day feature, which works differently.

Instead of clicking a date and seeing details on the right, you now need to open the My Day pane and select the date there.

This design is part of Microsoft’s move toward a unified experience across apps.

To make things smoother, try these steps: click the My Day icon in the top-right corner, switch to the Calendar tab, and pick the date you want.

If the view looks broken, you can reset it by going to View then click Reset View or running outlook.exe /cleanviews.

Are you using the new Outlook interface or the classic one? That will help me guide you better.

If you’re using Classic Outlook, the easiest way to check is by looking at the top-right corner of your Outlook window.

In the new Outlook, you’ll see a “Try the new Outlook” toggle or a banner mentioning the new experience.

If you don’t see that and your interface looks more traditional with the ribbon and menus like File, Home, Send/Receive, then you’re on Classic Outlook.

Since you’re on Classic Outlook, the old sidebar should still work unless the view settings were changed by the update.

Here’s what you can do: first, go to View then click Reset View in your calendar to restore the default layout. If that doesn’t fix it, close Outlook and run outlook.exe /cleanviews from the Run dialog, this resets all custom views and often resolves display issues.

After that, check if clicking a date in Month View shows the details on the right again.

One quick question before we go further: do you see the My Day icon in the top-right corner, or is the right-hand pane completely blank when you click a date?

That would help me figure out if the update partially applied or if something else is causing the issue.

If you see the My Day icon, that means the update applied some new features even in Classic Outlook.

The Reset View option is usually under the View tab in the ribbon, look for Change View or Reset View in the Current View group.

If you don’t see it, you can still reset everything by closing Outlook and running
outlook.exe /cleanviews from the Run dialog (press Windows + R, type that command, and hit Enter).

This will restore all default views.

Yes, that definitely matters. If you’re using Outlook on the web, the Reset View option and the outlook.exe /cleanviews command won’t apply because those are for the desktop app.

On the web, the new layout with the My Day icon is the default experience, and Microsoft hasn’t provided a way to revert to the old sidebar view.

What you can do instead is customize the My Day pane: click the icon in the top-right, switch to the Calendar tab, and select the date you want.

You can also pin the pane open so it stays visible while you work.
