Visual Studio 2022 / 2026 - Manage Nuget Packages tool window - How can you change the color of the highlighted tab

Is it possible to change the color of the tab highlight when using the Manage Nuget Packages tool?

I can't find any obvious selection in the Fonts/Colors settings of Visual Studio and because it's dark grey it's terrible contrast when using a dark theme.

UPDATE: This appears to be a theme specific setting. Would still be useful to know where is can be configured

    Hi Dave,

As you mentioned, the low contrast in the status bar highlight is caused by the current theme. To resolve this, you can try switching to a different theme by going to Tools → Theme.

I tested several themes and found that some dark themes provide much better contrast for the status bar highlight. The most recommended option is the Visual Studio Theme Pack, because it supports many dark themes, and its status bar colors are designed with higher visibility.

Dark-mode themes from the Visual Studio Theme Pack that offer good contrast include:

    • Cool Slate
    • Icy Mint
    • Juicy Plum
    • Moonlight Glow
    • Mystical Forest
    • Abyss
    • (and more)

From my testing, the Monokai theme appears to be the root cause of the issue. Its status bar highlight looks exactly like the one in your screenshot.

Although it is technically possible to customize a theme manually, I don’t recommend it. Custom theme modifications may cause unexpected UI issues in some situations. Switching to a different theme is the safest and most effective solution.

I hope this helps resolve your concern. If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know!

I have since moved to a new Laptop and so my new VS2022 install is a non-Preview version. The Themes mentioned in this post apparently came in UI Refresh preview.

Does anyone know how to extract it from a previous install? I tried to use the "Visual Studio Color Theme Designer 2022" to export the lovely SunnyDay theme, but despite choosing SunnyDay as the base theme, the colours you see in the preview and indeed the end result are they grey's and silvers, and not the nice yellow colours of the theme.
