Unable to update Windows

Hello, I've been unable to update Windows for the last few weeks, and I believe this is also preventing me from receiving the update to Windows 11 prompt.

When attempting to install the update, I am met with error code 0x80070643. I have already tried the Windows Update Troubleshooter, flushing my cache, repairing files, and updating BIOS to no avail.

I've also reached to a support agent on Microsoft's live chat, but they were no help and told me to "contact my local technician". i.e. Go to the local PC shop.....

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

May I please know the version or edition of Windows 10 installed on your device?

Type Winver in the search bar on the taskbar and click Enter.

Post a screenshot of the resulting dialog box.

Note - Support for Windows 10 ended on 14 October 2025. Microsoft no longer provides software updates, security fixes, or technical assistance to Windows 10 PCs.

If your device is eligible for a Windows 11 upgrade, you can use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant tool to update it. Before that ensure your PC meets all the minimum system requirements for Windows 11 using the PC Health Check app.

Or you can back up all of your important files and install the latest version of Windows 11 through a USB bootable installation media. Let me know the version and which method is comfortable for you.

Hi, thank you for sharing the screenshot.

You may receive this error if your PC does not have a recovery partition that is large enough to complete this update.

Follow the steps in the article below to manually resize the Recovery partition and try installing the Windows update again.
