Hi @Margene Burnett,
Thank you for posting your question to Microsoft Q&A Forum.
Since you are looking for instructions to switch accounts in OneDrive so they can access their work files instead of their personal files, I'd love to provide information based on two alternatives for you to choose.
If you want to switch entirely to your work OneDrive, click the OneDrive cloud icon → gear → Settings.
- Account tab → click Unlink this PC (or Sign out, depending on your version).
- When OneDrive restarts, sign in with your work/school account.
- Pick the folder location and finish setup.
Important: Unlinking stops syncing your personal OneDrive on this PC. Your local files remain on the computer, but changes won’t sync back to the personal cloud unless you sign in again
However, OneDrive supports one personal plus one or more work/school accounts in the sync client. According to How do I merge my OneDrive for home with my OneDrive for work or school ? - Microsoft Support, you can keep personal OneDrive and add your work OneDrive at the same time.
- Click the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar (near the clock).
- White icon = Personal OneDrive
- Blue icon = Work/School OneDrive
- Click the gear icon → Settings.
- Go to the Account tab → click Add an account.
- White icon = Personal OneDrive
- Sign in with your work/school email (e.g.,
******@company.com). - Choose (or confirm) the local folder location for your work files (it will show as OneDrive – ).
- Finish setup. You’ll now see both:
- OneDrive – Personal
- OneDrive – in File Explorer and can sync them independently.
I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.
Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.
I look forward to your thoughts on this.
