Outlook saying tried to many times with the wrong password

So, I had this problem a few weeks ago, was locked out for 11 days. One day tried again with my old password, gave me the option to change password which was accepted and so all was good.

Last week tried to enter via work computer and gave me the same again ... tried to enter too many times via wrong password - I only tried once!!

Tried again today and managed to change password, which was accepted. Tried new password and got the same message, 'tried to login too many times with wrong password'.

Is this something to do with the passkey? I can get in on my phone and on my ipad as this is via passkey - but cannot get in remotely when using computer at work.

I think I am done with MICROSOFT - I cannot risk getting locked out of my account every two weeks, with no support from MICROSOFT and no solution. The Customer service is non- existent.

Has anybody else found a solution to this problem as there seems to be a major problem which microsoft are not addressing.

    Hello,

This is likely microsoft's overzealous incorrect password attempt lockout, it is usually triggered when there are multiple logins from different locations, and as you said you're attempting to remotely access a work computer which is not at your usual login locations.

I suggest trying to login again via incognito mode sometimes incognito mode can get you around the too many login attempts lockout.

To prevent this moving forward I recommend using two factor authentication with an authenticator app, this is the safest login method and will not lock you out compared to sending a code to your phone number.

    Hope this helps,

    JC

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with account lockouts and password management in Outlook. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Confirm Credentials: Ensure that you are using the correct username and password. Sometimes, similar-looking accounts can cause confusion.
    2. Account Lockout: If you receive a message about trying too many times with the wrong password, it may be due to security measures that lock your account after multiple failed attempts. If you are using a work computer, ensure that there are no saved credentials that might be incorrect.
    3. Password Reset: Since you mentioned being able to change your password, make sure to use the new password consistently across all devices. If you are able to log in on your phone and iPad but not on your work computer, it might be worth checking if there are any saved passwords in your browser or Outlook that need to be updated.
    4. Use Passkey: If you are using a passkey on your mobile devices, ensure that your work computer is set up to accept the same authentication method. Sometimes, different authentication methods can lead to confusion.
    5. Contact Support: If the problem persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance. They may have specific insights into your account issues.
    6. Emergency Access Account: To prevent future lockouts, consider creating an emergency access account, which can help you regain access if you are locked out again.

These steps may help you resolve the issues you are facing with your Outlook account.
