I cannot access internet via ethernet or wifi - ipconfig tells me that media relating to this is disconnected. I have tried several possible solutions - windows troubleshooter; netsh winsock reset catalog; netsh int ipv4 reset.log; netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log; I do not have network sharing enabled. The problem is still there. I have temporarily connected to the internet via a mobile router.

    Hi Derek,

Thank you for sharing your question. Hey, thanks for walking me through what you've already done. I am here to help.

Usually, that message means Windows sees the network stuff, but it's not actually hooked up to anything. This can happen if the adapters are turned off, the drivers are old or messed up, or if there's a problem with the hardware.

Here's what you can try next,

Go to Network manage and make sure Ethernet and Wi-Fi are turned on.

Look in Device manage for any warning signs on your network adapters. If you see any, update or reinstall the drivers.

If it's still not working, try turning the adapters off and on again, or uninstall them and restart your PC so Windows can reinstall them.

Also, double-check that airplane mode is off and that no random security software is blocking stuff.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

    Hi Noel,

Thank you for your response to my question - I tried all of your suggestions, unfortunately ipconfig still shows media disconnected in all cases as before. So perhaps there is a problem with the hardware?

    Hi Derek Thorpe,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. I'm happy to help.

Does the problem occur with other devices or only your computer?

It might be your router, please try reboot your router to see if the problem can be solved.

Next thing to consider is Ethernet and Wi-Fi adapter IP and DNS.

    1. Open Settings > Network & internet > Ethernet > scroll down to IP assignment
    2. If it's Automatic (DHCP) > click Edit > switch to Manual > set static IP based on your router DHCP configuration
    3. Set custom DNS such as Cloudflare DNS or Google DNS
    4. Do the same with Wi-Fi adapter

You said that you are temporarily connected to the internet via a mobile router, how you connect your computer to the mobile router?

I hope that above information is helpful to you.
