I was shared an unsolicited file on my onedrive. I'm pretty sure it is phishing because the file jsut says "click here". I am trying to delete it and remove me from being shared but it couldn't be done so and just says "The provided item ID is not valid for the requested drive".

If you are unable to delete a file that has been shared with you on OneDrive and receive an error stating "The provided item ID is not valid for the requested drive," it could be due to several reasons:

    1. File Permissions: Ensure that you have the appropriate permissions to delete the file. If the file is shared with you, you may not have the necessary permissions to remove it.
    2. Invalid Item ID: The error message suggests that the item ID might not be valid. This can happen if the file has been deleted by the owner or if there is an issue with the link.
    3. Contact the Owner: If you suspect that the file is phishing, you should contact the person who shared it with you and request them to remove your access.
    4. Stop Sharing: You can also stop sharing with guests by removing their permissions from the shared item, or by removing them as a guest in your directory.

If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.

Thanks for sharing the details, Fadz! Try to remove the File Using OneDrive’s “Manage Access” Panel (NOT the Delete Button)

Sometimes the “Delete” button fails because the item is orphaned or damaged, but the permissions removal still works.

    • Go to OneDrive Online: https://onedrive.live.com
    • Go to Shared → Shared with you.
    • Click the 3-dots (…) on the suspicious file.
    • Select Manage Access.
    • If you see your name under People with access, click X or Stop sharing with me.

If successful, the file immediately disappears from your Shared list.

See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly
