I just bout a new tower and cannot add my Microsoft account. After entering my email address, I am asked to scan a QR code with my iPhone. After scanning I am connected to both the computer and the Iphone. I press the passkey button on the iPhone and I get a message saying, "Oops, something went wrong. This service isn't available right now-please try again later." I've been trying again for the last six hours!

    Hi Larry Larson,

Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand you’re trying to set up your Microsoft account on a new Dell computer using the QR code and passkey method, but you keep getting the error “Something went wrong, service isn’t available now” on your iPhone.

Firstly, please make sure your system met Requirements

    • Windows 11 (22H2 or later) on your Dell PC.
    • iPhone running iOS 17 or newer.
    • Latest Microsoft Authenticator app installed from the App Store.

Then, on your iPhone, Go to Settings > General and update to the latest iOS. In Settings > Passwords > Password Options, enable Autofill Passwords and Passkeys and select Microsoft Authenticator. Remove or disable other password managers that might interfere with passkeys.

You can set up your passkey by opening https://aka.ms/mysignins in Microsoft Edge. Under Security info, select Add sign-in method > Passkey. Choose Set up using another device, then scan the QR code with your iPhone. Confirm in the Authenticator app and complete MFA.

    Note:

    • Restart both devices and ensure Bluetooth is enabled.
    • If you recently restored from iCloud, toggle Autofill Passwords and Passkeys OFF and then ON.
    • If the service is still unavailable, you can request a Temporary Access Pass (TAP) at https://aka.ms/PRMFAtempdelay to sign in without a passkey.

The initial response might not address the problem. So, if your problem persists or you need any assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Post Answer" if you cannot add comment. This helps me can read your follow up. Thanks for your effort.
