Upgraded to 365 Family Plan but my Windows account on my PC still shows individual plan. I shared the 365 plan with a family member but copilot does not show up in their Word and Excel, it only shows in Edge.

Hello, good day and thanks for your question. To add to the above, "AI features in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Designer included in Microsoft 365 Family and Premium plans are only available to the subscription owner and cannot be shared with others." It seems that after upgrading to the Microsoft 365 Family Plan, your Windows account is still showing the individual plan. This can happen if the new subscription has not been fully recognized by your account on the PC. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve the issue:

    1. Sign Out and Sign In: Try signing out of your Microsoft account on your PC and then signing back in. This can sometimes refresh the account information.
    2. Check Subscription Status: Go to your Microsoft account subscription page to verify that the Family Plan is active and that you are signed in with the correct account.
    3. License Assignment: Ensure that the licenses for Microsoft 365 Copilot have been assigned correctly to the family member. You can manage licenses in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    4. Wait for Propagation: Sometimes, it may take a little time for the new subscription to propagate across all services. If you just upgraded, give it some time and check again.
    5. App Updates: Make sure that the Word and Excel apps are updated to the latest version, as Copilot features may not be available in older versions.
    6. Check for Copilot Availability: Ensure that Copilot is not blocked by any organizational policies if the family member is using a work or school account.

If Copilot still does not appear in Word and Excel after trying these steps, you may want to reach out to Microsoft support for further assistance.

I guess it is shame on me for not reading every single footnote. The page I was presented when upgrading directly from the link in my Microsoft Account was similar to: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/buy/compare-all-microsoft-365-products

You have to scroll, scroll, scroll to the bottom of the page to read the footnote. This is a very important distinction so the Marketing team should be putting this text explicitly in the side-by-side comparison chart of features rather than small print at the bottom of a lengthy page.
