How do I recover my locked account for my Outlook email? Many "automated" recovery attempts failed

Hi!

I have an ongoing issue accessing my main email account as I have been locked out of my account. (What sign-in helper has suggested, "Locked due to too many incorrect attempts", something along those lines)

I have tried the following;
1. Account recovery form filled twice, both times verified and a link was given to reset password, both times it leads to same result of "Too many incorrect password attempts".

2. Using a phone number for verification in order to reset my password (through the sign-in helper), again, no luck, same error applied despite being given code to apply reset.

3. Using the Reinstatement form, which lead to nothing.

I have contacted support twice, with no success.

No way of resetting password works for me. It's as if the account that I have an issue with is in a corrupted state.

*To add to this; I have also waited more than 48 hours since previous log-in attempts, resets, you name it. Nothing helps.

Is there an ongoing issue with outlook accounts? What can I do? I haven't had access to my email since 20 November and I'm starting to get worried.

Some guidance, please. Thank you!

-Jesper

    To recover your locked Outlook account, you can try the following steps:

    1. Use the Account Recovery Form: Since you've already filled this out twice, ensure that you are providing accurate information. If you receive a reset link, make sure to follow it promptly, as links may expire.
    2. Phone Verification: If you have a phone number linked to your account, use it for verification. Make sure you enter the code correctly and within any time limits.
    3. Check for Ongoing Issues: Sometimes, there may be service disruptions affecting account recovery processes. You can check the Microsoft support pages or forums to see if others are experiencing similar issues.
    4. Contact Support Again: If previous attempts have failed, consider escalating your issue when contacting support. Provide them with detailed information about your attempts so they can assist you more effectively.
    5. Temporary Access Pass: If you have security information set up, you might be able to use a Temporary Access Pass to regain access to your account. This usually involves verifying your identity through other means.

    If these steps do not resolve your issue, it may be necessary to wait for a response from Microsoft support or to seek further assistance from your organization's IT department if applicable.

    Hey there! Nice to meet you!

    The error you are experiencing indicates that your account is temporarily blocked due to multiple failed sign-in attempts or an unusual login pattern.

    Since you mentioned that you have successfully reset your password and waited 48 hours to no avail, you may need to wait a longer period, exactly up to a week from now, before performing another password reset, as stated on the official Microsoft website:

    https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/troubleshooting-verification-code-issues-409090c4-92b5-42b9-8ae6-bcc97e62fc48#::text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did#::text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did

    Important: Ensure not to attempt to sign in or reset the password during this timeframe (1 whole week), as this may reset the lock period.

    Thank you for understanding. Let me know if you need anything else.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

    You're welcome! It’s possible that during those 9 days, the account lock was reset.

    There is a chance that a hacker repeatedly tried to sign in to your account, which triggered the system to detect multiple failed sign-in attempts or an unusual login pattern and resulted in the account being temporarily blocked.Once you have regained access to your account, please secure your account by enabling the two-step verification feature and ensure that your verification methods are updated on account.microsoft.com > Security > Manage how I sign in

    Also, I highly recommend following the guide from this thread to prevent unauthorized login fatigue: https://v4.hkg1.meaqua.org/answers/questions/4049625/someone-is-repeatedly-trying-to-access-or-hack-my?forum=windows-all&referrer=answers

    That is a good point, and I'm sorry you are experiencing this. However, please keep in mind that these hackers don’t stay in just one account. They may have moved on to hack different accounts after trying to sign in for a week or so.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl
