I want to record games, but when i try to open xbox game bar with the command "windows key + G" it doesnt work. I just opened it manually, but it still doesn't let me record. I tried to open the settings and repair it and tried openeing different games or using the command "windows key + alt + R" but it still doesn't work and it tells me: " Gaming features aren't available for the Windows desktop or File Explorer". I don't know how to fix it.

    Dear dragonfly2077,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

You could try the following steps to fix:

    1. The focus trick:
      • Launch your game.
      • Click inside the game window to ensure it is the active "focused" application.
      • Now, try pressing Win + Alt + R again.
      • If you are running the game in "Windowed" mode: Try switching the game settings to Fullscreen or Borderless Window. Windows has trouble detecting games that are running in standard windows.
    2. Force Remember this is a game.
      • Open the game you want to record.
      • Open the Game Bar manually (search "Xbox Game Bar" in Start since your shortcut is broken).
      • Click the Settings cog icon in the top bar of the overlay.
      • Look for a checkbox that says "Remember this is a game". Check it. If this checkbox is missing, skip this step.
    3. Repair the Windows + G shortcut via registry:
      • Press Windows + R, type regedit, and hit Enter.
      • Navigate to this path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameDVR
      • On the right side, look for a key named AppCaptureEnabled. If it doesn't exist, right-click > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value > Name it AppCaptureEnabled.
      • Double-click it and set the Value data to 1.
      • Next, navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore
      • Find GameDVR_Enabled and ensure the value is set to 1.
      • Restart your computer.
Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
    4. Reinstall the Gaming Services:
      • Right-click the Start button and select Terminal (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
      • Run this command to remove the Game Bar:
             Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage

      • Run this command to reinstall it from the store servers:
             Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers *XboxGamingOverlay* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

      • Restart your PC and try Windows + G again.

In case my initial reply could not help, please let me know and we could do further research.
