How do I change the column width in outlook for mac?

The center column (with the inbox and list of emails in it) is far wider than I want it. Dragging the side doesn't get nearly as narrow as I'd prefer it. How can I make that column narrower?

    Dear Bill O'Callaghan

Thank you for sharing your concern in the Q&A forum.

Based on the information provided, I understand that you would like to reduce the width of the center column in Legacy Outlook.

After conducting research and performing tests in my environment, I have confirmed the following:

    • Legacy Outlook uses a fixed layout consisting of three sections: Folder Pane, Message List, and Reading Pane.
    • The minimum width of the message list column is defined by the legacy UI and cannot be reduced beyond a certain threshold.

To optimize the interface according to your requirements, there are three available options:

    • Adjust the Reading Pane via View >> Reading Pane:

    User's image

    • Right: the default layout currently in use.
    • Below: moves the Reading Pane below the message list to save horizontal space.

    User's image

    • Hidden: completely hides the Reading Pane for maximum space.

    User's image

Consider switching to New Outlook: Unlike Legacy Outlook, New Outlook allows you to directly resize columns with greater flexibility.

I hope this information is helpful. Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out, I am always ready to support you.
