Good day

I have bought a service by accident and I would like to refund it. The item shows eligible but I get this error. I have no idee how to ask someone in Azure for the refund.

Thanks

    Hi Ivor,

First, if you haven't already, please turn off auto renewal of your support plan:

In the Azure portal, please navigate to Cost Management + Billing using link below:

    https://portal.azure.com/#blade/Microsoft_Azure_GTM/ModernBillingMenuBlade

On left, click Products + services -- All billing subscriptions blade. Click on context menu (three dots) to the right of the Microsoft Azure Support line and choose Change renewal setting.

In the flyout window on right, select Off and click Save.

The above will cause your Developer support plan to expire on the date shown and not be automatically renewed.

Second, I recommend you create a new billing support request so that you can speak to billing engineer and request refund. Billing support is free.

Please carefully follow my instructions below to create new billing support request without getting stuck in endless loop.

I you have issues creating ticket please let me know in a comment.

    1. Navigate to this link to start the process:

    https://portal.azure.com/#create/Microsoft.Support

    2. Enter billing in the box and click Go

    3. Select Billing and click Next

    4. Select your subscription from the dropdown and click Next

    5. At this point there will be a delay of several seconds, and then various options will be displayed. Click Create a support request button at the top. DO NOT CLICK any of the other options.

    User's image

    6. Fill out screen, Summary, Problem type, Problem subtype, then click Next button at bottom. You may need to select different Problem/subtype than shown below

    7. There will be another several second delay, and then some solutions will be displayed (this is similar to above). DO NOT CLICK any of the solutions, instead click on Return to support request button in upper left corner, similar to below

azure support request Return to support request

    8. Now you are back at support case. Click Next button at bottom to continue to Additional details tab. Fill out information as required, one of the items you may need is your Subscription ID.

You can open separate browser tab and navigate to your subscription in portal, the ID is there, click the copy button to the right of it, then paste it into the box on Additional details tab. Click Next to advance to Review + create tab, then click Create.

You should receive an automated email within a few minutes and then be contacted by support within 1 business day.

Please click Accept Answer and upvote if the above was helpful.

    Thanks.

    Hello Ivor Du merwe .

I understand that you accidentally switched to a paid account and would like to request a refund for it. Here’s how you can go about that:

    1. Submit a Refund Request: You can request a refund through Azure support. If you are a non-Enterprise Agreement customer, you need to submit a request via the Azure portal.
    2. Include Necessary Information: When you're submitting your request, make sure to include the following details to help process your request quickly:
      • The refund amount
      • The reason for the refund
      • Indicate if this is a new refund request or checking the status of an existing one.
    3. Use the Azure Refund Button: You can check if there are any transactions eligible for an expedited refund by selecting the Request a refund button in your billing section of the Azure portal.
    4. If Issues Persist: If you're encountering an error when trying to request the refund, you might want to include that error message when contacting support for further assistance.
    5. Removing the Support Plan: If you haven't done so already, you may also cancel the support plan to prevent any future charges. Here's how:
      • Go to Cost Management + Billing.
      • Select a Billing scope.
      • Under My Subscription, select your support plan and choose Cancel.

This should help you get started on your refund request. If you have further questions or run into more issues, don't hesitate to ask!

    Follow-Up Questions:

    • What specific error are you seeing when you attempt to request your refund?
    • Have you already cancelled the support plan?
    • Do you have the billing details, like the amount charged and your invoice?

    Relevant Documentation:

    Hope this helps!
