How do I get emailed calendar appointments to open

When I receive an email with an attached appointment, I can't open the appointment. My web browser (Chrome) says it has been downloaded, but when I try to open the reminder, it just opens another blank web page in Chrome.

Hello Dennis Francis, thanks for posting this in our community.

ICS files are calendar files meant to be opened by a calendar application such as Outlook or Google Calendar, not directly in a web browser. When you click the attachment in Chrome, the file is downloaded, but since Chrome does not have a built-in calendar handler, it opens a blank page.

To resolve this, you can open the file in Outlook by downloading the ICS file from the email, locating it in your Downloads folder, and double-clicking it. If Outlook is installed, it will open and prompt you to add the event to your calendar. If it does not open in Outlook automatically, right-click the file, choose Open With, and select Outlook.

Another option is to import the file into Outlook on the web. Go to https://outlook.office.com, open the Calendar view, select Add Calendar, then choose Upload from file. Select the downloaded ICS file and pick the calendar you want to import it into.

If you prefer Google Calendar, go to Google Calendar in your browser, open Settings, then Import & Export, and upload the ICS file to add the event.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli
