Hello everyone, I suspect my laptop has been infected by a malware. Currently I'm inspecting my OS so as to hunt down any malware. I did a clean reinstallation of MS Windows. In autoruns program under codecs section there is this entry: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 and under this it shows this: MidisrvTransferComplete File not found:
I couldn't find any information about this on the internet. This looks suspicious. Please If anyone has any idea about this, do answer this question.
That is not an indication of malware on your PC, the registry entry (MidisrvTransferComplete) is a standard entry in all Windows installations, it is for the Windows Midi service located in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 key in the registry, it is also normal for Autoruns to indicate 'File not Found' for that entry, because the codec is not installed by default.
Thank you for your answer. I am actually analyzing my PC for any malware persistence and that entry seemed suspicious. Can you please guide if the firmware has been infected with the malware, would Microsoft Defender Offline scan suffice to detect and remove it?
I think the best option is to perform a full scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner, ignore any files that are listed during the scan, because that utility works in a different way to normal anti-virus software, if at the end of the scan it indicates no malware is found, then your PC is clear of any malware.
