My wife's PIN suddenly stopped working. She could not remember her password, and when requesting a code to reset her password, the system is dead; there is no response. We have no way of accessing the computer (Dell Latitude)

If your wife's PIN is not working and she cannot remember her password, there are a few options you can try to regain access to the computer:

    1. Reset the PIN from the Lock Screen: If the PIN credential provider is selected on the lock screen, she can select the option "I forgot my PIN". This will prompt her to authenticate using an alternate method (like a password or security key) if available.
    2. Use an Alternate Sign-in Method: If she has previously set up an alternate sign-in method (like a Microsoft account), she can use that to sign in. After signing in, she can navigate to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and reset her PIN.
    3. Check Network Connectivity: If the device is a Microsoft Entra hybrid joined device, ensure that it has corporate network connectivity to the domain controllers, as this is necessary for certain PIN reset scenarios.
    4. Recovery Options: If the system is unresponsive when requesting a password reset code, you may need to check the internet connection or try resetting the device using recovery media if available.

If these options do not work, you may need to consider contacting Dell support or a professional technician for further assistance.

Thanks for reaching out Ed. I know being locked out of a device is frustrating. This often happens when Windows can't confirm the PIN because of network or sign-in issues. First, check the laptop's internet . Password resets need it. If it's online but the PIN still fails, restart in Safe Mode (hold Shift while clicking Restart) and try your password. If it's a Microsoft account, use another device to reset it at account.live.com/password/reset. Local accounts have different recovery steps and might need Dell’s recovery tools. Is the account linked to Microsoft, or is it a local account?
