How to keep dual Dell monitors in extend

Since the update, my 2 Dell monitors no longer stay in dual extend and go to mirror. After a combination of restarts, powering off, unplugging the LORYI dual monitor adapter I use(display port to HDMI), sometimes I get it to stay in extend, but then at some point it flips back to mirror.

To keep your dual Dell monitors in extended mode instead of mirroring, you may want to try the following steps:

    1. Check Display Settings: Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings. Ensure that the display mode is set to Extend these displays.
    2. Use Keyboard Shortcut: You can also use the keyboard shortcut Windows + P to quickly toggle between display modes. Make sure to select Extend.
    3. Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. You can check for updates through the Device Manager or the manufacturer's website.
    4. Check Adapter Compatibility: Since you are using a dual monitor adapter (DisplayPort to HDMI), ensure that it is compatible with your monitors and is functioning properly. Sometimes, using a different adapter can resolve issues.
    5. Power Settings: Check your power settings to ensure that the monitors are not set to turn off or revert to a different mode when the computer goes to sleep or is restarted.
    6. Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows is fully updated, as updates can sometimes resolve display issues.

If the issue persists, you may want to consider resetting your display settings or checking for any known issues with your specific Windows version and the dual monitor setup.

    Hi max,

Thank you for sharing your question.

I get how annoying it is when your dual Dell monitors keep switching back to Duplicate (Mirror) mode instead of staying on Extend, especially after updates and after you've tried fixing it a bunch of times.

This usually happens because of driver problems or display settings resetting after updates. Here's what you can do to keep the extended display working:

First, make sure your adapter and cables are working right by testing them with another device, if you can. Then, get the newest graphics drivers and DisplayLink drivers (if your LORYI adapter uses DisplayLink) from the maker's website. Old or not right drivers are often why the display mode changes.

Next, go to Settings > System > Display, pick each monitor, and set the layout to Extend these displays. Click Apply and then Keep changes. To stop Windows from switching back, go to Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings and make sure both monitors are showing up right.

If it still messes up, turn off Fast Startup under Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable, then uncheck Turn on fast startup. This stops Windows from loading old display settings that might be causing it to switch back.

Lastly, check for any Windows updates or optional driver updates under Settings > Windows Update. Sometimes, installing these fixes compatibility problems that came with earlier updates.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel
