Hello @Tom Ravenscroft
Welcome to Q&A forum!
Thank you for reaching out to us. I have reviewed your case, and I will try to clarify your concern:
- The issue happens because Office LTSC 2024 and Publisher 2021 use different Click‑to‑Run builds, and Microsoft does not allow mixing different generations on the same PC.
Therefore, when you reinstall Office LTSC 2024, it automatically removes Publisher 2021 to keep everything in one consistent version
In this case, you have two straightforward options:
1/ Use Office LTSC 2021 instead of LTSC 2024
This version supports Publisher 2021, so they can work together without conflict.
- What you get: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, etc., with ongoing updates.
- Why it solves the problem: All apps are from the same family/build, so Publisher stays installed and there’s no version conflict.
- Requirement: A Microsoft 365 subscription (monthly/annual).
If you want Publisher + the latest Office features, and you’re okay with a subscription.
2/ Use Microsoft 365 Apps (subscription)
This suite includes Publisher and avoids the version‑mixing problem completely.
- What you get: The 2021 LTSC suite (no subscription), and you can include Publisher 2021.
- Why it solves the problem: All apps are from the same 2021 generation, so they coexist normally.
- Important: Don’t install LTSC 2024 on the same PC, because it will remove Publisher 2021.
If you cannot use subscriptions and need a fixed, long‑term version that includes Publisher.
