    Hi Chris,

I'm Sumit, here to help with your query on the Microsoft Q&A forums.

Apologies for any inconvenience you are experiencing. I am happy to help you today.

Did you buy any chance try these commands given below? I believe with older Network shares, running these is necessary.

    https://www.yourwindowsguide.com/2025/01/mapped-drives-24h2.html

    1. Open the  Windows search bar and type “powershell”
    2. Right-click on PowerShell and select “Run as administrator”
    3. Execute the following commands:
    Set-SmbClientConfiguration -RequireSecuritySignature $false
    Set-SmbClientConfiguration -EnableInsecureGuestLogons $true

I look forward to your response and am eager to collaborate until we find a solution.

This does not work or address all of the issues caused by KB5065426 which seems to adds security "enhancements" that:

    • Reset some network profiles from Private to Public.
    • Disabled File and Printer Sharing and Network Discovery.
    • Blocked insecure guest logons by default for better protection (which is what this post is about).

I have also tried the other solution listed in https://v4.hkg1.meaqua.org/en-us/answers/questions/5551014/kb5065426-update-stops-file-and-print-sharing-from

However the only fix to restore network shares has been to uninstall the buggy KB5065426.

For something so significant, Microsoft really need to better test and document such changes rather than just proverbially throwing things over the wall and letting thousands of customers suffer after the automatic update kills there networking shares.

Hi folks, I do believe I can report with some confidence it was the update, it did effect win 11 and win 10, and it was intentional by Microsoft. Its a security "improvement" because the level of security provided by credentials with SMBv1 is no longer considered good enough. Not a shock. I'll provide the links below to the update note and the CVE report that provides the rationale. Its valid, but ridiculous. Here's the relevant language from the update:

    • [File server] This update enabled auditing SMB client compatibility for SMB Server signing as well as SMB Server EPA. This allows customers to assess their environment and identify any potential device or software incompatibility issues before deploying the hardening measures that are already supported by SMB Server. For detailed guidance, see CVE-2025-55234.

I really don't want to replace the server and I really can't abandon the update chain. I'm really disappointed that Microsoft would abandon users like this. This is just the little guys. Enterprise stuff would have moved past SMB1 long ago just via momentum. It also makes me doubt ms will consider this a bug, or provide a workaround.

    Sadly, this is NOT solved.
